The Olympic Club settled a class action lawsuit over claims it is responsible for a 2022 data breach.
The Olympic Club class action settlement benefits individuals who received written notice of the breach, which the company reportedly discovered on or about June 17, 2022.
The class action lawsuit claims The Olympic Club is legally responsible for the data breach and asserts various legal claims, including negligence, breach of implied contract and a violation of California’s Unfair Business Practices Act. It also alleges the company did not notify individuals about the breach until on or about March 10, 2023, nearly eight months after it discovered the incident and a year after it occurred.
The Olympic Club is an athletic club and private social club in San Francisco, Calif.
The Olympic Club has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay an undisclosed sum to resolve the data breach class action lawsuit.
Under the terms of The Olympic Club class action settlement, class members can receive monetary compensation for ordinary losses, including lost time up to four hours at a rate of $22.50)per hour, up to a collective total of $500 per person. They can also receive reimbursement for extraordinary losses caused by the misuse of their personally identifiable information, up to $5,500 per person. Additionally, class members are eligible to receive two years of one-bureau credit monitoring services.
The deadline to opt out or object to the settlement is Nov. 19, 2024.
The final approval hearing is Jan. 15, 2025.
To receive benefits from The Olympic Club class action settlement, eligible class members must submit a valid claim form by Dec. 19, 2024.
